Grey Hound Racing Beginnings
Racing is a form of a track event that is generally facilitated to entertain a group of people or the audience. Though the prime motive is financial behind racing, it serves two purpose of providing amusement as well as money. Greyhound racing is a form of racing where greyhound dogs are made to race and the first dog to finish the track is awarded the title and its owner is awarded the prize money.
The origins of dog racing can be traced back to the 18th century where a game called 'coursing' was practiced. Though it was not a form of race, it provided sheer entertainment to the viewers and preferably the nobles and aristocrats who facilitated it. Coursing meant the pursuit of 'live baits', known as courses, by dogs or grey hounds chasing them by 'sight' and not by the usual way of 'scent'. The most common baits or courses included 'coyotes' and 'jack rabbits'.
Grey hound racing is famous in many countries like Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, Ireland etc. smaller racing places include France, Germany, Netherlands etc. The sport is emerging as a serious form of entertainment in many parts of the world and many races with 'titles' are being facilitated throughout the year.
